There are many factors that affect the life of the battery. To begin with, the most important piece of advice is that the electrical system of the vehicle must work well. The battery is a piece of equipment that accumulates energy required by all the electrical components in the car to allow it to function. In other words, it is what starts the car and makes the ignition as well as the fuel pumps work. But it also supplies energy to other equipment that functions even if the car is turned off such as the radio or the lights. If something fails in all this electrical system, the battery, which is the heart of the system, will also begin to fail. Prevention is number one. A complete periodic electrical revision of the car is the first thing that must be taken into account to make sure that the battery does not fail before its normal life cycle is complete. The useful life of a battery cannot be measured with great precision, because it all depends on the use and the general condition of your car. But if all works well and you have a vehicle that is used to going to and from work or just going out for rides around town, the battery may last three (3) years.

It sounds like a myth, but it is true: if the battery is not attached to the car very carefully it also deteriorates faster. And why, you might ask, if that has nothing to do with the electrical system? Because even if you cannot see it, the interior of the battery is a complex system of multiple connections and active materials that allows for the accumulation and distribution of energy to the car. If the battery does not have a good support that will keep it in a fixed position, the excess of vibrations will loosen these connections and active material, ruining the battery

Many people use their vehicle as a sound system; they leave the lights on when the motor is not on, they connect loudspeakers when the car is turned off, incorporate accessories such as a GPS, television, screens, led lights, among others. All this generates additional drain on the battery and for this reason it will not last very long. What all these actions really do is run-down the battery. The reason is simple: when the battery is functioning with the car on, it completes all the charge and discharge cycles as it has been designed to do and all the internal components work appropriately. But when the car is turned off, and many of the accessories are turned on, the battery simply runs-down and looses power faster. The ideal situation, if you want to have a party in the car, is to install an alternator with a higher capacity and an appropriate battery for this type of use (deep cycles). But keep in mind, you will probably need a bigger battery. If all of this sounds too complex, simply moderate your behavior and make sure that you don’t leave anything on when the vehicle is turned off.

If you got really excited at the party and have left some accessories on and the battery is dead, then you will have to recharge it. You must remove the battery and take it to a location that specializes in providing a slow, controlled charge to recouperate the original status of the battery. When the battery does not work for reasons other than a total and complete rundown of the battery, what you can usually do is re-start it by using another external battery that will resupply the charge to your battery. It is a simple procedure and the only recommendation we can give you is to make sure that the cable connections are attached correctly: positive borne with positive cable and negative borne to negative cable. If you have any questions about this operation, or if you have never done it before, ask someone with experience. Remember that a bad connection can damage the entire electrical system of your car.

As we have mentioned previously, it is not possible to say exactly how long a battery will last. In general, people think about the battery when it dies or when you are stranded. However, there are certain signs that will alert you to this situation that you must consider so you don’t get a ¨headache¨. The most important sign you will discover, is when you want to start the car. When you find that the car does not start immediately upon turning the key in the ignition, the best thing to do is go to a location that specializes in this type of situations and ask them if the battery is ready to be changed.

Many people ask themselves which is the most appropriate battery to replace the one that was originally in the car. No matter what the make or brand, the client must purchase a battery that is appropriate to his/her vehicle and for the accessories that may already be in the car. The best thing to do, in this case, is to go to a Specialized Service Center and ask for their help. If you are going to buy the battery at a supermarket, make sure to have all the precise and detailed information of what are the requirements your car may need.

Of course, there are workshops that offer services to repair batteries, but this is not the most appropriate thing to do. First, because it is not recommended touching the internal components of the battery, because they would never work in the same way again. The sealed batteries maintain its components intact in the interior of same, preventing the altering of the chemical balance, and for this reason they do not require maintenance, because all the elements are protected. The second reason the battery should not be repaired is because, fixing or changing it, may generate wide contamination. For this reason it is best to go to the experts at a Specialized Service Center, so that the appropriate recycling of all the components can be completed in the correct manner. In this way, you will be helping to protect the planet.

By law, all the batteries in Colombia have a warranty. The minimum warranty is for twelve (12) months. You will find batteries that have between twelve (12) and twenty-four (24) months of warranty on the market. If you detect a failure in the battery that may require you to use the warranty, go directly to the location indicated by the seller. There they will complete an evaluation to determine if what has happened was a manufacturing defect. Keep in mind that the warranty does not apply when the battery has been damaged by any type of external factor, such as: defects in the electrical system of the vehicle, it has been hit with something or if it is dead, misused, a short circuit has been induced or that it does not have the required frame of support.

Should you need to use the warranty, filling out the following form will help you get in contact with the authorized dealer in your country.
